July 1, 2010 – Launch of the Ogiek registration process
The process to register the Ogiek community has been launched today in Nessuit, in presence of the District Commissioner, Njoro District, and the Chief Coordinator of the Mau Interim Coordinating Secretariat.
A large number of members of the Ogiek community participated in the launch and registered themselves at the end of the launch ceremony. The registration of the entire Ogiek community will start in the weeks to come. It will help strengthen the identity of the Ogiek community and assist in planning for their livelihood development
Mr. Towett, Chairman of the Ogiek Council of Elders, delivered a statement welcoming the Government support to the Ogiek minority group.
